The 10 Foods You Would Take On Magic Island Game

July 10th, 2005

Here are the results of our game. We decided we could share foods and that all desired drinks were provided.

Sharon–watermelon, potatoes, cheese, broccoli, blueberries, tomatoes, eggs, onions, yogurt, Godiver truffles. Joan–spinach, bananas, blueberries, eggs, yogurt, sweet potatoes, granola, almonds, bread&butter, bread pudding. Carol–potatoes, peanuts, green grades, bing cherries, cabbage, bread&butter, bananas, beets, granola, green beans Bob–peanuts, potatoes, granola, cheese, apples, bacon, cabbage, spinach, strawberries, grapefruit.

Bread&butter does not count as two because we made it all one word and because Carol chose it first, and she made up the game. Would you like to submit your list? Just email me, and I’ll publish it. Remember, you’ll be on Magic Island for the rest of your life, so choose foods you don’t think you’ll tire of.

Not Everything is as it Seems

July 10th, 2005

Up for breakfast at the St. Margaret’s at 9 a.m. with Bob and Carol. I had prunes, poached egg on toast, tea with milk. Hailed a cab after some difficulty to St. Paul’s Cathedral and got there just in time for the 11:00 service–Stravinsky Mass with male choir (boys and men) and wind quintet. Female priest, but homilist was male. Beautiful music. Sharon had a wonderful, busy day planned for us. Walked over the bridge to the West Bank of the Thames. Ate tuna and canaloni beans salad on spinach. Delish! Walked along the West Bank. Saw Globe Theatre. Crossed over Waterloo Bridge. Took many pictures. Visited Covent Garden (not a garden) and shopped. Had lime and mint cooler at Piazza Cafe. Shopped at tea shop and Crabtree and Evelyn. Saw street performers–singer, guitarist, unicyclist, juggler. One man fussed at me because I video-taped the singer and didn’t give him money. We also went to Leicester Square (not a square)–entertainment district–movie theatres, casinos, restaurants, video arcade, other theatres. Saw a Swiss glockenspiel, but it didn’t play like we thought it would. Then walked to Picadilly Circus (not a circus). Saw Chinatown, Eros statue. Found our theatre for DEATH OF A SALESMAN. Walked a lot. Ended up at Rock and Sole Plaice(rock=fish, sole=fish, plaice=fish)for cod fish and chips. I had a glass of wine. Very good food. Played a game Carol made up called 10 FOODS YOU WOULD TAKE ON A MAGIC ISLAND. Fun Day!

The St. Margaret’s and the British Museum

July 9th, 2005

Arrived at St. Margaret’s Hotel at around 11 after cab drive from Victoria Station. I was actually at VICTORIA STATION!! Roads were blocked off because of bombing so cab dropped us off and we walked. Bob anc Carol already here. We all took showers and walked to the British Museum. Ater at the restaurant there. I had Greek chicken, hummus, Greek salad, and pita. Also had hot tea. We saw the Rosetta Stone. I actually saw the ROSETTA STONE!! Also saw many pieces of the Parthenon that were brought back here “to be preserved.” We could have spent a week there and not have seen nearly everything. We did some shopping at Boots and Sainsbury grocery. Got a pass for the internet cafe. Brendan e-mailed that Maria is now his girlfriend. ‘Bout time. Ate dinner at the Dutch Pancake House. Sharon and I had peaches and ice cream pancake. Bob and Carol had Canadian bacon and apple. Very yummy!

Off to London!

July 8th, 2005

Got up at 6:30 a.m. (not early enough), finished packing, tea and banana bread, made copies of passport and credit card at St. Mark. Yesterday terrorists bombed three tube stations and a bus in London. Around 40 people dead. We’re still going. Left with Bob and Carol for Cincy airport at 10:30. They stayed at Sharon & Mike’s last night. Sharon had us (John & Dana, me, KK & Kyle) over for a dinner of paninis, potato and caesar salads, and blueberry cake with frozen yogurt. Very yummy! Mike took Sharon to the airport. Met her and all ate lunch together–curried chicken salad sanwich and 3-cheese gill with tomato and onion (tres quesos). Very good. Took flight to Charlotte. Wanted to get pedicures because I bragged on mine in that airport. Turns out it was in Savannah!! Very disapoointed. 3 hour layover. Sat on plane after boarding for a while–something had to be checked out on an engine. Huge plane–8 seats across. Watched movie–PHANTOM OF THE OPERA. Enjoyed it but voices not as good as original London cast. Ate tortellini, bread and butter, cheese wedge, carrots & dip, round cookies (supper), danish, o.j. and coffee (breakfast). Tried to sleep but couldn’t get comfortable. May have slept a little. Read my USA TODAY. No problems with immigration–nothing to declare. Took Gatwick Express train to Victoria Station. Half an hour ride. Much graffiti. Row houses. Depressed area.
