I thought we could use a thread where we introduce ourselves, just in case we haven't met on campus yet.
Of course, you all know me, I'm Reginald the TA for 101. I'm from London, and I'm doing my postgrad research here at Prof. Abalone's into Ninth Tier Summoning in Akkadian Ritual Magic. I've been here for six years now, so I know my way around pretty well.
I also love ballroom dancing, so you'll see me tearing it up at the Formal Ball on Friday.
Hey, Clive Horatio here. I'm from Toronto, Canada, and I am a senior majoring in Broomstick Journalism. I also have a concentration in Wand Art so if I'm not in in Lage's newspaper office, you will probably find me in the basement of the art building.
Even though I'm a senior, I still live in Dragon Dorm, so feel free to hang out at some of out frequent hall parties.
Yakob Kurzweil, requisite fresh blood. My family's from Romania but I grew up in the States; both my parents are lawyers and hey, I love a good joke as much as the next guy. Q: What did the lawyer say to his own reflection? A: Nothing, they don't show up in mirrors.
Anyway, I'm taking mostly requirements this term, but I'm thinking about a major in Metanthropy or Haemomancy toward a pre-med program. I'm in Nicholas Hall (SAY WHAT, FIRST NICK!) and I'm trying to get a team together for intramural night golf, so hit me up if you're interested.
Hello, I'm Gaylord Lage. I'm a first-year student and I'm also living in Nicholas Hall. I like music and sport. My favorite band is Vampire Weekend, which is funny because I'm not very keen on vampires. I'm a poor excuse for a magician but I aim to rectify that through hard work, diligence, and the old luck of the Lages! I'm majoring in Divination; it's a family tradition. Yes, Lage Hall was named after my uncle Boaz. I don't have two pennies to rub together so don't hold it against me.
My name is Addler Blake. I'm from Oxford, I have been around for about a year and I have to say I AM NOT HAPPY AT ALL.
Fine, being opinionated about how wrong the professor is about the way to obtain a vial of salamander's essence during an exam can be considered rude. But making me repeat the term just because of that? It sucks. No, really, it does.
Come on! Even the good old Abalone has stated more than once that innovation is a key in Magical Research and Spellcasting Evolution. I'm definitely unsatisfied about the way some courses are led, and I refuse to let those dictators shut me down. Call me a rebellious lad if you like. Once I prove you my theories are better than yours, you'll regret not paying attention to me.
Well, hello all! My name's Emerson, and it's great to have finally made it here!
I'm sure you'll all notice I'm the only student of robotic heritage on campus this year. I must admit, it's a little awkward; but I'm not looking for any special treatment, and I'm really looking forward to immersing myself in the university experience! I've been immersed in Draconic Studies for some time now, but I'm thinking of double majoring in druidry and really getting in touch with the beauty of nature. I'm big on hiking, surfing, and especially mountain sports! I recently became the first automaton to both climb Everest and explore the Marianas, and have some great travel snaps to share with other adventurous souls!
Clive, just got my room assignment, looking forward to sharing a pint with you in the hall!
So, wait, the ball is a proper dance and not just a bunch of people jumping around to loud music? I've had more than enough of that at Dragon hall already.
And before anyone asks, yes the Salmanay seer family. But no, I can't read for you, because I'm only here because I *don't* have the family talents. *sigh*
ummm yeah, so I'm mostly signed up for a little of everything this semester (including ocular divination, which I will fail, but my parents made me)
Namaste! I'm Owen Quinn, on of the TAs for the Forbidden Arts department. When not grading papers, my current work is mostly involved in the recently emerging interdisciplinary field of Teleomancy, on which I recently published a paper involving reintegrating some of the principles thereof into a generalized thaumaturgical paradigm, which was generally well received.
I originally hail from Santorini, and actually came to the school to learn sewing-machine repair, but when the Library arbitrarily assigned me Indigo clearance, Forbidden Arts made a hard sell for me, and I found I enjoyed the subject material quite a bit. Some people still hold that against me, but I haven't looked back yet, despite a few harsh chiminages paid during my early days in demonology. (And I'm sure Reggy would be more than happy to tell you about the time I got my Prison/Fortress circles mixed up. It was pretty funny, in hindsight.)
I haven't been able to attend as many meetings as I'd like recently, but I also used to be fairly active in Students For Diversity in Sapience, back when it was called the Human/Other Alliance. I still try to drop by when I get a chance.
Hi, I'm Glorian Celeste Hartshelder, I'm an Aries, and I'm local. My mom was Keeper of Magical Creatures here when I was a kid, then she and Dad decided I needed to see how the other half lives (without magic!), now I'm back. Yay! Besides the basic stuff, I'm reeeeally interested in the Anthropology of Small Creatures (gnomes, pixies, brownies, sprites - anything under 1 foot tall) and Geomancy. Oh, and Poisons.
At my high school, I was co-Capitan of my archery team, and I sing soprano. I like teal and silver, and I don't eat onions. I have a dog named Sparkle. Yes, my hair is naturally black. Yes, my eyes are naturally green. No, I'm not usually this pale - I spent the summer underwater in Sesiniana!!! Mom and Dad are documenting the effect of pollution on mid-sized sea serpents. It's really sad.
I'm in "Wiggley" Quiggley, Posey Quad southside. Being in the halls is weird when the rooms shuffle, because the walls ripple and flex, but otherwise it's fine - like living near a railway or something. Except that time when all the bathrooms wound up in the NW corner of the third floor - that was a drag. But hey, not knowing where your room is going to be when you wake up makes each day an adventure!
My specialization is in Alchemy, but I have several great books about poisons (I'm specially interested in their healing and mental enhancing properties). Perhaps we could trade some info sometime...
Oh, and once you get the pattern, the changing architecture is a piece of cake.
Hey, I'm Elijah, also a first-year and an import from the U.S.
I'm a dual major in Applied Necromancy and Thaumaturgical Engineering. My plan was to get into the Parascience department at MIT, but my mom's English, and she insisted I go to a "proper British school of magic," and MIT cost more than I could afford on my own, even with the scholarships I'd gotten. So, here I am.
Elijah, if I'm not mistaken you're in Nicholas Hall, aren't you? I'm on the end in the Wasp Room (come down and take a look some time - he's quite harmless).
Ok. I will. Of course, I'm only sorry she came at this weird and dark times... Abalone was way more quiet and beautiful last year (although a lot less exciting, I'd have to say).
Welcome, Melanie. Addler Blake, Alchemist Extraordinarie at your service.
Thank you for the welcome. I must admit I have been very confused by all this running around. Isn't there a time to just sit and drink coffee? Perhaps we could meet in my sitting-room.
What with Quiggley's habits, it's easiest if you put directions to your rooms on the outside of the main door. The main door and the halls stay put, thank goodness.
We use to gather on Tuesdays for coffee. If Em and Glorian don't mind (and I'm pretty certain they won't), you could join us. We could upload you with the important stuff. From school issues, to partying spots, down to those weird and misterious things that have been happening around.
